Annual VSB Volunteer Orientation Event Draws Enthusiastic Crowd

An upbeat crowd  of 48 attendees--made up of 38 volunteers; four prospective volunteers; and six spouses/friends turned out on Wednesday evening, October 12 for VSB's annual orientation event, held this year at Msgr. Nagle Hall/Basilica of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Stamford.

Alan Gunzburg, a member of VSB's Board of Directors, was an enthusiastic representative/proxy for the organization's founders Claudette A. Tallon and James H. Waddington, and all of the VSB Board, in welcoming the attendees.

The "100% donated" event, included the contributed venue at the historic lower level meeting hall of the St. John's, as well as:

An informative and well-received program that featured Dr. Mark Feder, presenting the myths and realities of age-related eye diseases: macular degeneration; glaucoma; and cataracts, AND Peter Nowicki (and "Jeter") from Fidelco, presenting the history, work, and services of the organization, plus:

A buffet of hearty sandwiches, salad, dessert, and beverages provided by Katie's Gourmet-Stamford

Take-away gift bags and  a variety of 19 free raffle items/packages donated by area retailers, that delighted the volunteers.

A handsome program booklet produced and printed by Rapid Press-Stamford.

A hearty response/participation from the evening's attendees, including networking before and after the program, contributed mightily to the event, which was part information sharing and education, part celebration of VSB's volunteers' service to clients.

Coordinator of Volunteers, Gini Ott and Coordinator of Client Services, Gigi Guthrie were hard-working, enthusiastic VSB professional staffers, who toiled tirelessly and in true team spirit with ED John Murphy in the planning, preparation and execution of this important program.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of VSB's volunteers for their hard work and dedication to our visually impaired clients, as well as to the many vendors and retailers, who contributed to the event's success!

It's a pleasure to work with all of you, as we strive together to meet the needs of our clients and to promote volunteerism in Fairfield County.
